Home Zone

All students who live within the home zone described below shall be entitled to enrol at the school:

The Rutherford College home zone shall be bounded by a line running from HuruHuru Creek along the centres of Triangle Road, Lincoln Road, Mt. Lebanon Lane, the railway line, View Road, Great North Road and Hepburn Road to the corner of Akatea Road and thence directly ahead down the southern boundary of Hepburn Park to the Whau River, then north along the shoreline of Te Atatu Peninsula to Triangle Road bridge over the HuruHuru Creek.

Proof of residence within the home zone may be required.

Special Programmes

The school operates the following special programme:

Special Education

Students who live within the school’s home zone and meet the criteria for enrolment in the special programme will be enrolled ahead of out of zone students.

The criteria for acceptance into the programme are as follows:

  • Students must have Ongoing Reviewable Resourcing Scheme (ORRS), or equivalent funding.
  • Students must require a level of specialist input, therapies and paraprofessional support and the use of additional teacher time based on current assessments of individual needs rather than on a predetermined programme or timetable.
  • Students must have a disability for which this unit provides specialist services.

The number of places for out of zone students will be determined each year by a management committee consisting of the Principal, or his nominee, and the HOD Special Education. Out of zone applicants who meet the criteria will be given priority based upon whether the student needs can be met with the current staffing, programmes and resources, the classroom size and dynamics and the potential or likelihood of future funding for the student.

Out of Zone

Each year the board will determine the number of places which are likely to be available in the following year for the enrolment of students who live outside the home zone. The Board will publish this information by notice in daily or community newspaper circulating in the area served by the school. (This will normally be the Western Leader). The notice will indicate how applications are to be made and will specify a date by which all applications must be received.

All students are expected to wear the prescribed school uniform in a tidy manner. Parents are asked to support the school in achieving this expectation.
