Options 2010

10 August 2009

Dear Parents/Caregivers

During options week (10th – 14th August), all students will be focusing on subject choices for 2010. To keep their career choices open, students are encouraged to select a broad range of subjects for as long as possible. Students should consider possible pathways for the future and they need to choose subjects that will develop their skills and talents. Their curriculum handbook is designed to help them do this.

If you would like some assistance to support your son/daughter with their option choices, then we would encourage you to make an appointment with a member of the Careers team or the appropriate Dean. We will be available in the Careers Department from:

Time: 3.30pm – 6pm on Tuesday 18th August

Venue: Careers Department located in D block (Toru Street entrance)

Please phone 834 3305 to make an appointment with a member of the Careers Department or email: jreid@rutherford.school.nz

Or phone 834 9790 to make an appointment with your Dean

Students who are taking Health as a subject this year are currently doing a career focused unit of work. This will be of added assistance by raising awareness of opportunities available whilst researching possible careers, and course entry requirements. Information attained can be taken in to consideration when choosing subjects.

During tutor period in options week, all students will be given a curriculum handbook and subject choice form. Together with their Tutor Teacher, they will work through the process of choosing subjects for 2010. On Friday 14th August, students will bring home all documents to discuss with parents/caregivers. Completed subject choice forms are due back to Tutor Teachers by Wednesday 19th August.

Yours sincerely
