13A v Massey High 16/05/09

Game v Massey High School at Massey 16/05/09

It was important that the boys put the narrow defeat to Kelston Boys behind them and secure a win against Massey if they were to start pressing a claim to be involved in the 13A1 championship round.

13A v Kelston Boys 02/05/09

Game v Kelston Boys – May 2nd at Rutherford College

The team started positively in what was there first outing as a team despite not being sure of their positions and responsibilities. The attitude was good exemplified by Nigal Kishore and Caleb Farry at the back using their strength and pace to good effect to snuff out the early Kelston raids. Tom Delich and Captain Aaron Wilson looked tidy in the middle of the midfield where they had two good players to contend with.

Get to Go Challenge 08/09/09

Get to Go 01 2008

The Get to Go Challenge is a one day adventuresport competition for Year 9 and 10 students. Two teams of 8 students from Rutherford competed on August 7th, against teams from around Auckland. We started with mountainbiking around a very muddy park on the North Shore, with teams cycling hard to get the maximum number of circuits on 2 bikes per team, while other repeatedly changed tyres to get more points. We moved on to Lake Pupuke for kayaking, again aiming for the maximum number of circuits. This was made challenging by tying the two kayaks together, putting a bucket on the head of the lead kayaker and leaving the second with no paddle at all. Communication skills were really important here! Our next challenge was in Orienteering, running around Western Springs Park searching for as many markers as possible. Serious strategising was needed for success, and we enjoyed this challenge so much that many are keen to enter the secondary schools orienteering competitions next year. By now, all were tired but we had one last challenge in indoor rock climbing at Clip N Climb. The aim here was to get points from the various climbs and some of our team found a new talent! We returned home exhausted after a long day of adventure sport. One team placed 3rd overall, which was a great result. The winning team gets to compete in a week-long challenge on Great Barrier Island, so we've set our sights on that one for next year!
