NZDF Engineering, Science And Technology Conference

NZDF Engineering, Science and Technology Conference

An early start saw us arrive at school just after 7:00am on Tuesday, 28 August so we would make it to North Harbour Stadium for an 8:00am start. There was time for a free coffee and a quick look through the Tech Zone before heading into the first presentation. The morning session was focused on the diversification of the workforce and harnessing and development of talent, especially ensuring more young women consider careers in the Science, Technology and Engineering sectors. Morning tea gave us the opportunity to test some of the state of the art technologies on display, with the…

Rudderless bring the trophy home to Rutherford!

On Wednesday 5 September 2018, 12 of Rutherford's finest young men marched down to the beautiful University of Waikato to take part in the Waikato School Frisbee Championships. After storming a path to the finals including a 13-0 quarter-final win over Katikati College Senior's, they met Hamilton Boys High School in the final. After a tight first half, 'Rudderless' came out on top 8-3. A proud performance from the school's newest premier team. Our team showed resilience as a team with little to no Ultimate Frisbee background earlier in the year, but with many hours training the stage was set…

Collegiality 2018

Every two years Mrs Taula and teachers of her cluster group "8ve" bring their music students from across Auckland to join together at Auckland Girls Grammar for a day filled with instrumental and choral workshops ending with a massive combined concert programme. What originally started as an occasion for music teachers to spend a mixed music lesson day together has now turned into a monumentous event for students and audience members. Rutherford College's music department has been part of this since its very humble beginnings in 2010 with many of its ex-music students returning as professional musicians and as guest…

Studio Show 2 – Revive

Revive - Rutherford's second and last studio show of the year was held in the school hall from the 28th-30th August 2018.   It was called ‘REVIVE’ because it was just that - a fresh revival of our renowned dance department. The new space, feel, and overall experience of the show was super exciting for both performers and the audience, with the tiered seating, side lighting, and floor situated stage transforming the school hall into a space almost unrecognizable. The second studio show had only limited seats with a total of 130 tickets available per night which all sold out, adding…

Ki-o-rahi

Ki-o-rahi

The Year 11 te reo Māori class was invited by Waitākere College to play a game of ki-o-rahi with their te reo Māori class. Ki-o-rahi is a traditional Māori game based on the pūrakau(story) of Rahitutakahina and the rescue of his wife Tiarakurapakewai. The purpose of the afternoon also was about whanaungatanga by establishing positive relationships with other students in West Auckland through kaupapa Māori events. Our students were happy to have won the ki-o-rahi game and look forward to competing again in the future against Waitākere College. Tēnei te mihi atu ki ngā kaitautoko hoki i tēnei rā, arā…
