Junior exams are on Friday, 16 November and Monday, 19 November 2018. Friday, 16 November Session One - 8:40am to 11:am Year 10 | English Year 9 | Mathematics Session Two 11:40am to 2pm Year 10 | Science Year 9 | Social Studies Monday, 19 November Session One - 8:40am to 11:am Year 10 | Social Studies Year 9 | English Session Two 11:40am to 2pm Year 10 | Mathematics Year 9 | Science School will finish at 2pm on both days.

Talofa Lava, Malo e lelei, Kia Orana, Kia Ora, Nisa Bula Vinaka, Fakaalofa Lahi Atu Taloha Ni and Warm Pasifika Greetings. On Thursday, 18 October in the Rutherford College hall we held our Second Annual Pasifika Prizegiving Awards. Teacher’s nominated Pasifika Students that have made a consistent effort throughout 2018. All students that were nominated by 3 or more teachers were rewarded with a trophy to keep. The trophy represents a ‘Lamp of Knowledge’. A fantastic sporting year celebrated at Rutherford College’s Annual Sports Awards Evening.

Rutherford College held its annual sports award evening on Friday, 26 October. The night was a celebration of both individual and team performances during the year and there were fantastic displays on the night from our Kapa Haka and Sports Committee. The Guest Speaker on the night was Olympic Boxer, Alexis Pritchard. Alexis is a New Zealand Lightweight Boxer and had a world ranking of 8th and a Commonwealth Ranking of 2nd in her category – Women’s 60kg Lightweight and has been the 60kg New Zealand Champion for four consecutive years. Remembrance Day display

Remembrance or Armistice day,  marks the day World War One ended, at 11am on the 11th day of the 11th month, in 1918. A two-minute silence is held at 11am to remember the people who have died in wars. Come to the Library and have a look at our amazing display and learn more about this very significant day.

U15 7s Tournament

It was a day of sunshine, sweat and sensational tries at the Waitemata Rugby Club on Wednesday, 31 October for the under 15 7s tournament. Mr Nola and Mr Doak took 13 boys to the tournament where they were to play four schools (Aoere, Selwyn, Green Bay and Otahuhu). First up was Aoere. We had some good structures in place on offence but our defense was lacking. We scored a couple tries but let trough too many on our end for a loss. Next up was Selwyn. Pétanque is a sport in the boules category that originates from France, in New Zealand it is played in many individual clubs like the one Jill Edgar and I took 14 Rutherford Junior students to on Wednesday, 31 October. Pétanque is usually played in singles, doubles and triples against an opponent, either on gravel, or hard surfaces. We were joined by various other schools from Central and West Auckland at the Herne Bay Pétanque club, which has gravel terrains (pitches). Kia ora, on Saturday, 27 October we were lucky enough to host the NZ Basketball Women's Coach Aik Ho, for a coaching clinic at school. It was a great turnout, the 15 students who confirmed their availability attended and had the opportunity to sample his very skill based coaching tips. During the 2018 season many of our Basketball players took the opportunity to coach. Parent Help is a non profit organisation supporting parents to build resilient and positive families/whānau. They run a free confidential parenting Helpline for parents and caregivers. The Helpline is available from 9am – 9pm, 7 days a week providing advice, support and practical strategies on any parenting challenge.

Police Open Day

Head along to the Police Open Day on Sunday, 11 November 2018 from 10am to 2pm at the North Shore Policing Centre, 52 Parkway Drive, Mairangi Bay. It is a Family Friendly FREE event.
