Farewell and thank you all for your contribution to the Rutherford Community

At Rutherford we say please, thank you, excuse me and sorry. This article is to thank those staff who are moving on but throughout their time and Rutherford have helped students to pack their parachutes. The following staff members will leave our school at the end of the 2018 academic year. To our Sports Coordinator of the last 15 months Jill Edgar, thank you for the wonderful contribution you have made. You have brought energy, humour and made such a big difference in such a short time. To Charmaine Mailley. Our thanks for the time, patience and care that you…

Junior Prizegiving 2018

Congratulations to all students honoured at prizegiving on Wednesday, 12 December. We gathered as a school to celebrate and honour the academic achievement of our Year 9 and 10 students. Students who have excelled this year, will not have done so due to any individual factor or reason. It will as always be a collision of reasons, not least the number of people who have supported them, provided advice and guidance, kindness and care. This starts with families and whanau, extends to teachers, friends, coaches and various other people throughout our community who have added value to our student’s experiences.…

Wider Living Week

Year 9 and 10 students have been enjoying Wider Living Week this week, with activities ranging from paintball to cooking. The weather necessitated a few last minute changes to some trips but thanks to our wonderfully committed staff the week has run smoothly. Thanks to Ms Lehndorf for her organisation of the week, all staff involved, and students for their participation.

Two Top ICAS Medals for Rutherford students

On Saturday, 1 December the ICAS medal presentation ceremony was held at Auckland University. Rutherford College was lucky enough to have two of our students in attendance; Tunde Ficza won for top in English for Year 10 and Anna Choi won for top in Mathematics for Year 13. ICAS provides an opportunity for students to compete academically with students in Australia and internationally. The highest achieving students in each country are awarded a University Medal. All students who participate receive a University Certificate indicating their level of achievement from High Distinction to Participation.

Pushed to the limit

I swapped my phone and social media for 21 days with 13 strangers getting lost in the bush, rowing for hours in the hot sun, then again under the stars, running up hills and kayaking down river rapids. With my watch group Cobham 646 by my side we laughed till we cried and cried till we laughed. Outward bound Anakiwa is one of the biggest accomplishments of my life so far. Many moments during the Mind Body Soul course will forever be treasured. Kayaking down the pristine waters of the Pelorus River, surrounded by nothing but purity, so pure we…
