Board of Trustees – Student Representative Election

On Wednesday, 23 September 2020 we held our annual Board of Trustees Student Representative Election. This process follows the same one as the Triennial Parent and Staff elections however, student representatives are elected annually in September. Student trustees have equal standing, voice, accountabilities and vote as other board members, they can't be the board chair (neither can the principal nor staff trustee). Any student enrolled full-time in Year 9 and above, and under the age of 20, is eligible to stand for election and vote for a student trustee. This year, we had to get creative as candidates were unable…

Year 9 STARS Camp

At the beginning of August, we were extremely lucky to be able to take the year 9 students to experience camp at Camp Adair. Little did we know that a week later we would then enter another lockdown. The camp having been initially postponed due to the first lockdown went ahead with the first six-year 9 classes attending for the first 3 days and then the final five classes coming in for the last 3 days. It was great to have the trails open again for us to tramp into the camp from the Hunua falls. It is a great…

Book Week 2020

We have been celebrating “Come read away with us” in the Info Comms this week. Our goal was to take you on a journey through a book. We had quizzes, events and displays for everyone. The most popular was ‘Guess how many lollies in the jar” drawing lots of visitors, including the staff. Our paper plane flying competition turned into a duel between a Year 13 and two Year 9’s. The result was three winners taking home the chocolate. Thanks to everyone for joining in and your enthusiasm during Book week.

Reader’s Cup 2020

The Reader’s Cup is a national reading competition for Year 9’s. Teams of four have to read six books and answer some very tricky questions on the texts. Our team of Charlie, Annaliese, Donovan and Kaitlyn signed up at the end of Term 2 and started reading. Our regional competition was against five other local schools and this year was held through Google Meets. The questions were very detailed and our team competed well, with the leaders changing each round. Next year, they will be able to coach the new Year 9 team and pass on lots of tips and…
