Auckland Secondary School Wrestling Champs

On Friday, 26 March Rutherford sent a team of 12 athletes to the Auckland Secondary School Wrestling Champs. With only Hassan Hussein having any wrestling background to speak of it was an eye-opener for the rest of them as they matched up against some of the best teenage wrestlers in the country. What they lacked in experience they more than made for with their enthusiasm and after the official tournament concluded they stayed on to challenge other competitors in friendly bouts. The referees and coaches spoke highly of the Rutherford team spirit and positive attitude.

Year 13 Travel and Tourism Trip

On Tuesday, 10 March we headed out on our first trip for the year, the stormy skies opened up, making it far from perfect conditions to venture out as tourists.  Our first stop was a walk up to North Head to experience some historic tourism and take in the panoramic 360° views of Waitematā Harbour, Rangitoto and the CBD.  Here, we had the chance to check out the old observation posts, gun emplacements and tunnels. Next up, was a stroll around the quaint Devonport Village then a 15-minute ferry ride across to Downtown Auckland. Initially, we had planned to experience…

Adult & Community Education is Thriving

People are continuing to attend night classes at Rutherford for many different reasons. Out of the 1000+ students that attended over 100+ term 1 classes, some were looking for a bit of ‘me’ time away from the responsibilities of work and family to reconnect with themselves and enjoy some adult companionship. For others, night classes offer the chance to express themselves creatively or artistically, perhaps picking up a hobby they felt passionately about when they were younger but felt unable to pursue because of different choices or commitments. This renewed interest can lead to a whole new career or to…

Kia ora te whanau o te kotuku Academic Tracking In conjunction with our focus on student wellbeing, staff will be following a process of academic tracking, designed to ensure parents receive timely information around senior students’ progress and performance across assessments.
