Principal’s Panui 25 February 2022

Kia ora te whanau o te Kotuku Thank you for the overwhelmingly positive response to our plan to keep Rutherford College open and available for face-to-face learning every day for periods 1 through until the end of period 4 for the next two weeks. At outdoor assemblies earlier this week I shared with all-year groups what we believe makes for happy and successful people and happy and successful teams, groups, and communities. Since then I have seen a lot of our students flying in the V formation including wearing their masks correctly, saying please, thank you, excuse me, and sorry,…

Kia ora te whanau o te kotuku We are Rutherford and you are part of the Kotuku. Those who are part of the Kotuku, bleed for the bird and realise that they contribute to something bigger than themselves and strive for personal excellence and strengthen the V formation. The best way to do this is to get the little things right. I invite all members of our Kotuku flock to please get the little things right that help us move in a positive direction and, therefore I Choose To live by choice, not by chance, so I plan ahead. To…

Year 9 Fun Activities Afternoon

On Wednesday, 2 February our Year 9's were given their first opportunity to have a bit of fun at their new home for the next five years. The afternoon sun's warmth provided a great backdrop to the tutor classes experiencing fun and games organised and led by our 2022 Sports Captains Paris and Luke, and their Sports Committee. From Tug-o-war to Stepping Stones to a bit of Chain Tag, I am sure our junior students were able to enjoy themselves before getting fully started in the life of a secondary school student. The Sports Committee would like to thank the…

Sports Committee Leadership Day

On Monday, 24 January our Sports Committee team went to Adventure Works high Ropes for our team leadership day and bonding. We did several different activities that enabled us to get to know each other while having fun. Everyone stepped out of their comfort zones to participate in each activity. One of the activities was climbing up a pole several meters high and jumping off trying to reach the trapeze, everyone had a go as the rest of our team belayed while encouraging each other while they were climbing up. This activity really pushed everyone out of their comfort zone…

Principal’s Panui 14 February 2022

Kia ora te whanau o te kotuku Covid continues to throw a few curve balls our way but in true Rutherford fashion, we adapt and make the best of the situation. Timetable Changes We have had to complete some changes to the timetable over the weekend. Since the start of the year, we have experienced an increase of in-zone enrolments at all year levels that necessitated the need to balance class sizes. As a result of these changes, students started today in their Tutor Class to enable time for them to receive a new timetable. Not every student will be…

Principal’s Panui 4 February 2022

Kia ora te whanau o te kotuku (Hello Rutherford Community), The following is a summary of the messages outlined to all year groups on their return to Rutherford for the start of 2022. I think it is important that staff, students and whanau (family) are on the same page when it comes to the must-do expectations to develop a positive culture at Rutherford. The focus for the start of the year as always is building authentic relationships and the necessary people skills to provide a solid foundation that serves you well both through your time at Rutherford College and in…
