Mathex 2022

On Wednesday 24th August, a Rutherford Year 9 team competed in the Auckland Mathex Competition at the Barfoot & Thompson Stadium, Kohimarama.  This is the first time the competition has been held in three years due to previous Covid restrictions.  The team represented the school with pride and acquitted themselves well.  The combined mathematical talents of Harrison Robb (9WS), Max RobbMarkham (9WS) and Ryan Lee (9WS) were aided by the speedy running ability of Miko Bonkovich (9WS).  The 30 minutes of mathematical problem-solving was hectic as the 140 teams ran to their respective markers.  The team scored in the top…

Rutherford College Careers Expo – Thursday 18th August, 2 – 8pm Finally, after COVID halted our plans last year, we got to hold our first Careers Expo. The expo was an addition to the options and subject choice evening, so students and their whanau could gather valuable information and explore some options for life beyond school whether it be to study, or to work when they leave school. The hall was a buzz with 24 providers keen and willing to share their knowledge and expertise. It was pleasing to see the steady stream of students along with their whanau dropping…

KBB Music Festival

Due to red light restrictions in term one, indoor gatherings were heavily confined. For the Rutherford College Concert Band, this meant rehearsals couldn't begin until part way through term 2. This made the grind to KBB Music Festival - Auckland's biggest music competition - far more strenuous than previous years. Despite these set backs, the band received high remarks from the judges; pulling through with a bronze award. The grand halls of the Holy Trinity Cathedral were consumed by an "excellent" performance from Rutherford. The adjudicators followed up their remarks with further praise to the performed pieces; the "confident" 'March…

Principal’s Panui – 19 August 2022

Kia ora te whanau o te kotuku The Person in the glass (mirror) When you get all you want and you struggle for self, and the world makes you king for a day, then go to the mirror and look at yourself and see what that man has to say. For it isn't your mother, your father or wife whose judgment upon you must pass, but the man, whose verdict counts most in your life is the one staring back from the glass.
