Athletics Day 2018
On Wednesday 14th February, the whole school took part in the annual Athletics Day. The weather definitely played its part on the day, not too hot or cold and the rain stayed away until later in the afternoon. The day began with a Haka competition between the houses followed by a whole school performance. House rivalry was evident in the noisy and enthusiastic atmosphere but it was Tāne Mahuta (green) that took the title of the Haka, winning a massive 150 points, followed by Tama-nui-te-rā (yellow) gaining 100 points and Ruaumoko (red) winning 50.
Student leaders did a great job generating house spirit by creating banners and decorating their house areas – there were a colourful array of participants.
Embracing house spirit, students threw themselves into events to gain points towards the year-long house competition.
The level of participation throughout the day was outstanding. A number of athletes turned in personal bests and the atmosphere of support and encouragement was great.
On the day it was the Tāne Mahuta (Green) House that swept up the house competition.
1st Place – Tāne Mahuta (Green) 562
2nd Place – Tama-nui-te-rā (Yellow) 497
3rd Place – Ruaumoko (Red) 322
The full list of junior, intermediate and senior champions follows.
Once again a huge congratulation to all competitors, you have done yourselves and Rutherford College extremely proud! A massive thank you to all of the Staff and Student leaders that contributed on the day – events like this would not go ahead without your continued support.
