Auckland Touch Cup
On Monday 3rd April our Premier Mixed Touch team attended the Auckland Cup Touch Tournament at College Rifles Rugby club.
With only a few year 13s attending, and the majority of the team being juniors, the team’s goal was to work in new players and form new combinations for the 2024 season.
The team connected quickly and new combinations became very clear as we progressed through the round robin to finish 2nd in the pool. Our semi final vs Tamaki College was a fast paced game with some great skill and flare on display.
Diving tries and touches leaving bodies scraped and bruised showed the commitment the players had to the cause, ending in a 5-1 win to Rutherford.
We met Auckland Premier champions Botany Downs Secondary School in the final. It was a hard fought game which eventuated in a 3-1 win to Botany, meaning we took home the silver medal. This was a fantastic result for the team, as they showed determination, team work, and a positive work ethic throughout the day. We are all very proud of them and look forward to what the team can do in the 2024 season.
