BlakeVR Sessions for Social Studies

The Social Studies department were privileged to host BLAKE and their travelling roadshow this week.

With a set of virtual reality headsets, the BLAKE educators, Courtney and Annika, ran a fabulous environmental education session with each year 9 class.

The focus was comparing and contrasting pristine and degraded marine environments which ties in with the Term 2 topic: Change – People and the Oceans. Students “swam” at various locations around NZ, including Poor Knights Islands, Goat Island and the Hauraki Gulf.

Students came away with actions they can take to protect the environment and a much deeper sense of kaitiakitanga.
