Bus Travel to Work

Our Turangawaewae students have been learning to use public transport as part of their Life Skills unit. Each week, we go to the Peninsula for work experience. While we have been doing this using the school van and staff cars, we wanted to learn about using the AT Hop App and our Hop cards.

Travelling by bus is relaxing if we know the steps involved. We learnt how to find the correct bus using our app. We waved for the driver to stop. When we got on, we had to tag on, find a seat quickly and settle down. The driver was patient and drove off when we were safely seated. We also learnt how to press the buzzer when our stop was near. Before getting off, we had to tag off.

We will practice this each week so that we can travel independently by public transport.
