Thirty eager students signed up to attend the annual New Zealand Careers Expo held at the ASB show grounds in Greenlane.  We attended the evening session as we have found this the best time to walk around at leisure and chat informally with representatives from key providers face to face.

Our students were praised for their ability to engage and ask relevant questions as they gathered information from the stands about tertiary courses, vocational pathways, trades, apprenticeships, study link, jobs etc.

This year JOBFEST was included – the biggest event for employers and young people under one roof! The emphasis was on current employment opportunities and the importance of being work ready. Employability skills and soft skills were the key requirements to equip students well in the future. These included having a good attitude, being reliable and that a driver licence can definitely be an advantage when it comes to employment. Recruitment agencies and staff were on hand from a number of industries looking for employees to start immediately.

All in all the Careers Expo was a great opportunity for students to explore and take a closer look at their options and to plan their next move.
