Min-Ji Yang – Chinese Language Journey 2019

It has been a good five years since I first visited China on a high school trip and four years since I graduated from Rutherford College. Not for a single second have I forgotten both experiences. Both have planted me firm roots for the budding opportunities to come and lifelong friends and teachers flying alongside me in ‘V formation’ throughout the journey. Finally, though not quite at my destination, I am proud to be in my fourth year of studying a Law and Arts degree majoring in Politics and Chinese at the University of Auckland this year. I hope this…

Pio Terei

Pio Terei

Our school was so privileged that Pio Terei took the time out of his busy schedule to both prepare and then deliver his inspirational address to our community on Rutherford Day. It was a great honour to hear first-hand some of Pio's experiences as a Rutherford High School pupil and his life afterward, but most importantly his message about the importance of honouring and treasuring whanau came through loud and clear. I believe the audience got a true understanding of who he is and what he stands for through his humour and honesty. Sharing with us briefly how he appreciated…

Foundation Pupils – Return For A Visit

Foundation Pupils – return for a visit

These founding pupils had a tour of the school and enjoyed some delicious cakes made by our students when they paid us a visit on 8 September 2017. They were part of a group of 153 pupils who first walked in the gates of the newly built Rutherford College on the first day of school in 1961. Back then there were no fields, no School Hall and only B Block for them to have their classes in. They had a strip of concrete around B Block to walk around during interval and lunch. They were amazed at how big the…
