Chemistry Labs Renovation

The beginning of Term 2 at Rutherford College has brought the completion of the project to renovate two of our chemistry labs.

This project has included the complete stripping and refurbishing of the interiors of both labs (room 56 and 57) and new comfortable desks and chairs have been put in. This has resulted in the creation of new, modern and safe learning environments to encourage the learning and work ethic of students from years 9 to 13.

The chemistry department have also been lucky enough to receive a new portable fume cupboard for the classes to use and for teacher demonstrations. These new spaces have left students excited as they anticipate using them and the equipment to enhance their learning.

To test out the new fume cupboard, a gummy bear was dropped into molten potassium chlorate.
