German Fairy Tale Evening

A congratulations to all involved in the German Fairy Tale Evening on Friday, 9 November hosted by our German Teaching Group and the students from Rutherford Primary School.

The night performance was a wonderful collaborative effort and showcased our combined achievements with the German language in songs, short films and plays by students from both schools.

We also were able to welcome several inspiring guest speakers who spoke about their experiences with learning German or travelling to Germany. Kerry Clegg informed about her trip to Germany earlier in the year and former Rutherford College student Melanie White spoke about her experiences with the German language.

The German Speaking School Group from Grey Lynn also impressed with a short performance.

Yummy German food and a good turnout of the German speaking community gave everybody the opportunity to connect more with actual German speakers and their culture. This really added a new dimension to language learning for everybody.

The evening ended with the National German Language Advisor Heike Papentin from Wellington handing out certificates and prices to all the students involved.

A decent amount of funds were raised that night by food sales, a gingerbread house raffle and donations for our four students planning to go on the Germany-New Zealand exchange next year.
