This year Rutherford’s Indian Dance Group formed as soon as school settled in, and we only had a month to prepare for Polyfest 2018. The month was intensive at times, but very rewarding in the appreciation that we gained of the Indian culture and each other. Our 5-minute performance contained many different styles of Indian dance and music, from traditional to modern. It was fully choreographed and put together by the students with the direction and wisdom of Mrs Shakoor and Dr Singh. The Polyfest theme this year was to “interweave and thread fibres of culture together”, and our dance was created to celebrate all the different aspects of Indian culture coming together as one. Every one of us who performed as part of the group this year feels such a sense of community with one another. We all feel grateful to have been a part of something that brought us together through Indian culture.
