KBB Music Festival

Due to red light restrictions in term one, indoor gatherings were heavily confined. For the Rutherford College Concert Band, this meant rehearsals couldn’t begin until part way through term 2. This made the grind to KBB Music Festival – Auckland’s biggest music competition – far more strenuous than previous years.

Despite these set backs, the band received high remarks from the judges; pulling through with a bronze award. The grand halls of the Holy Trinity Cathedral were consumed by an “excellent” performance from Rutherford. The adjudicators followed up their remarks with further praise to the performed pieces; the “confident” ‘March of the Trolls’ by Edvard Grieg, the “wonderful” ‘Celtic Voyage by Melanie Donahue and the “beautiful” ‘Kalos Eidos’ by Carol Brittin Chambers. The Rutherford College Concert Band returned to school proud of their efforts.

Special thanks to our band Director: Hanna Wiskari-Griffiths for all her time and effort which hasn’t gone unnoticed.
