Kia ora, on Saturday, 27 October we were lucky enough to host the NZ Basketball Women’s Coach Aik Ho, for a coaching clinic at school. It was a great turnout, the 15 students who confirmed their availability attended and had the opportunity to sample his very skill based coaching tips.

During the 2018 season many of our Basketball players took the opportunity to coach. Mollie Tagaloa took the Junior Girls (Year 9s), Tayla Antunovich, Caitlin Magasiva and Odessa Lawson took one of the Junior Boys teams, and Gabe De Guzman took both a Junior Boys and the Rutherford Primary School team… the Juniors love their tuakana (seniors) coaching them. Other seniors such as Nathan Bonner-Hutton ran warm up drills for teams waiting for the Community coaches to arrive… we have so many awesome Leaders in our midst.

After our coaching clinic the hope is that more Senior students will feel confident to take a Leadership role in their chosen sport Basketball during their years at Rutherford. I saw so much coaching promise on Saturday, we should have a great 2019.
