Kia ora te whanau o te Kotuku Throughout the journey, from a fledging kotuku through…
On Friday 23 August, Rutherford College thanks to storyline NZ, had the privilege to have author Lani Wendt Young speak with some of our year 9 students (9PL, 9GU and 9PR).
Lani is a Samoan/Maori writer, editor, publisher and journalist, her kids came to Rutherford College.
She attended university in the USA and New Zealand. Storytelling is her passion. She is the author of 11 books and has won multiple awards for her short fiction. The library has most of her books, so feel free to come and borrow them.
She has worked as a scriptwriter for Disney, and her stories for children are published by the NZ School Journal.
“I wrote the first book because it was the kind of thing I wanted to read as a 14 to 16-year-old growing up in the islands. There were always so many stories set in other parts of the world but never anything I could directly connect with – never anything in Samoa.”
Wendt-Young speaking about her series Telesa.
A big thank you to Storylines NZ, Lani, Mrs Westaway, Mr Ferguson and Mr Webb for making this visit possible.
