Pat Hanly Creativity Award Winners!

The Pat Hanly Award for creativity, presented by Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tamaki, is for outstanding creativity and commitment to the Visual Arts. Secondary schools in the Auckland region only can nominate a maximum of two students. Jemima Tichborne and Tyra Ibbott were our two top students to be nominated for this award this year. Both of them are only in year twelve!

Both Tyra and Jemima were successful in being selected to receive the award, with Tyra receiving a further award of ‘Highly Commended’. Only twelve students received this additional award, which speaks loudly of the concept and quality of the painting Tyra submitted. Her work; ‘Kindness in the Face of Adversity (The Nurse)’ is a homage to her mother.

Professor Mandy Smith from AUT said of the submissions ‘The high calibre of artwork we saw this year was outstanding. The next generation of young artists are pushing the boundaries of creativity by responding to the issues of the modern world and exploring the possibilities of their work.’

Needless to say, we are very proud of Tyra and Jemima and their artistic achievement, and congratulate them both.
