Kia ora te whanau o te kotuku,
The essence of strong foundations is relationships with people. As a school and community, these relationships are our core strength. Rutherford’s vibrant personality is created by every person and group within our school, and it is the people that create the pulse that makes our place special. In a community in excess of 1400 people, it is important to have shared rules and expectations around the must-do expectations. When we operate like this, we have increased energy and brainpower for those things that need our effort and concentration. It is not possible for everybody to agree on all the detail but we can agree that we can all act with integrity and display respect in all our dealings with people, property, and the environment.
In our ever-changing world, opportunities will continue to be offered to those who are prepared, imaginative, resilient, hardworking but most importantly trustworthy. This formula has stood the test of time. The path to the right decisions is not always clearly marked – the signs say only ‘quality’ and ‘excellence’. The path offers no other directions but your gut instincts or your moral compass do provide internal signposts to guide you.
“I believe that confidence on the outside begins by living with integrity on the inside.” ~ Brian Tracy.
JK Rowling, the author of the Harry Potter series said “It is our choices…that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities.”
Who will make the decisions for our country, for our community and within families and whanau. Many decisions are instinctive and the foundation that creates them is what has been seen, felt and heard over time.
Surrounding ourselves with people who have good gut instincts and values based on our Rutherford core values is a formula for happiness, success and good decisions. We will always need people who are intellectually nimble, to be able to cope with the unknowns of the future and emotionally intelligent so that they have the guiding values and principles to make good decisions for the benefit of the greater good.
