Kia ora te whanau o te kotuku
Mistakes are inevitable but we should never let them define us. We grow and learn from these moments and learn what is important to us and what we will be kaitiaki or guardians of. What we aim for is to grow young people who know their responsibilities and are active in pursuing what is right, what is fair and what enhances the community that we are part of.
Everybody will be at different points on that journey, but we can all learn to be brave and own, accept and take responsibility for where to from here. The next positive step in the right direction.
Part of this journey is to be aware of how our emotions can supercharge our responses. Emotions are natural and they will pass, so be careful of our emotions as your primary advisor to what course of action to take. Emotions are often our worst source of advice. I encourage that you never make a permanent or long-lasting decision from a temporary emotion. The emotion will pass but the result of the decision made will remain.
It’s not an easy path to follow and like many people out there I have had to learn the hard way. The facts are there is no easy way. The best way is to keep moving forward.
