Kia ora te whanau o te kotuku The next few weeks will be very busy…
Principal’s Panui – 19 May 2023
Kia ora te whanau o te Kotuku
It has been a busy time at school over the past week with Year 9 students at camp, rostering home on Tuesday and Wednesday and Pink Shirt day today.
It is wonderful to see how enthusiastically the staff and students embrace Pink Shirt Day in support of anti-bullying. Prefects and House Leaders did the rounds during tutor class to collect donations to donate to organisations that support or promote anti-bullying. The money raised from Tāne Mahuta was $339.70, Tama-nui-te-ra was $292.20 and from Ruaumoko $210.40. That is a total of $842.30 all up.
The weather has again been changeable this week but our campers managed to enjoy themselves despite the showers, wind and cold. The second group return back to school today.
Good News Story
I would like to share a good news story about a Year 11 student who went out of his way to help someone he didn’t know. On Tuesday he noticed a woman getting into her car on Tirimoana Street. As she entered the car her wallet fell out and she drove off unaware. Our student picked up the wallet and chased the car until he caught up with her. The woman was on her way to the airport and the wallet contained $5000.00 in cash. She offered the young man a substantial reward but he declined and went on to catch the bus to school. It is important to acknowledge the good things that students do when too often we may focus on the things they don’t do. Well done to this young man who did all the right things and obviously made someone’s day so much better than it could have been.
