Kia ora te whanau o te kotuku

As we move into the last week of term, I would like everybody to reflect and recognise that this is the longest stretch that we have had at school for 18 months without a break. On the back of COVID, what we all need to do is take a breath and look to be kind and considerate wherever possible. There is still work and learning to be done but I urge that everybody looks within and gets a sense of how they are feeling so that they can enjoy the last week of school and remember that many of us will be feeling tired and in need of a change of pace. The holidays are close but we need to keep moving forward.

If you are sick of starting over, then don’t stop in the first place. In 2007 the New Zealand Trans-Atlantic rowing team rowed for 24 hours in terrible conditions and chose to keep pushing forward, the second-placed team hunkered down and went backward. The winning margin was that exact distance.  That exact margin may be somewhat of a fluke but it reinforces the value of gritting your teeth through adversity and just doing the best that you can at that moment.

So I urge that you look at your priorities and put at the top of the list what’s important now? This isn’t what is easiest now but what you need to finish to capitalise on the mahi you have done. In other words, the final oomph to all the try you have delivered thus far. (Triumph – a small dad joke!).

I invite and encourage that you continue through with the growth mindset until the end of term.

With our School Ball happening next Friday, the school term will finish for all students at 1:30pm on Friday, 9 July. Buses will depart at 1:35pm except for the 013 that will keep to its normal schedule.
