Kia ora te whanau o te kotuku The next few weeks will be very busy…
Principal’s Panui – 29 July 2022
Kia ora te whanau o te kotuku
Mā te tika o te toki o te tangere, me te tohu o te panaho,
ka pai te tere o te waka i ngā momo moana katoa.
If the keel of our waka (our well-being) is not in good shape our journey will be tougher than it needs to be.
Let this be a focus for this term. Striving for personal excellence in taking care of yourself is an attitude of mind and a good habit to get into. It’s busy but don’t let the day run you, plan and take charge of your day.
What can you do? Plan the week ahead each week, write down three must do things to complete for each day and then tick them off each day as they get completed. This creates positive messages in your brain. Carry a drink bottle to drink water as your preferred fluid. Do some regular exercise. Turn off all electronics ½ an hour before going to bed, particularly blue screen devices. Try to establish a regular sleep pattern. Quality of sleep is our best form of re-energising and allowing our brain to rest properly.
School Ball
A night where you could be extra proud to be associated with Rutherford College. The feedback has been excellent and as and as always, the most important thing is that you all had a good time and looked after each other.
I was so proud of the way our students embraced the spirit of the night. You looked awesome. At times I am in awe of the way you all can rise to the occasion. Thank you for the way you all did your bit.
Thanks to our staff and the ball committee but in particular Ms Farrar for the first-class job she did in picking up the reigns organising this event. For all those who were there, we were able to have a great night. To order photos please click here.
Property Update – Master Plan – What is it?
It has been a challenging time to get any building projects started. Just as we were about to break ground on the building of our Student Services Centre the MOE developed a new master plan strategy which meant that any plans for new builds had to be put on hold while the required process was completed. The process is robust and thorough and will be for the long term good of our College. Unfortunately, it has slowed us down just as we had all plans in place to go full steam ahead.
The silver lining at this point, is that we have had the whole school 3D mapped so that we can enter each learning or office space and do a virtual walk-through. Having the ability to click on the link for every room in the school and be able to open the room, navigate the space, look at the dimensions, square metreage, room heights and number of windows etc and discuss this with the relevant contractors via a screen and see options in real time will be an advantage.
Board Community Consultation
The board would like to invite you to complete the annual community consultation survey. At the half way point in the school year, and with our existing board only here until the September elections, it is a good time to capture relevant feedback from our community. The board is especially interested to see if your priorities have shifted in any particular direction as a result of the disruptions school life has encountered over the past two years.
New School Portal-SchoolBridge
Rutherford has a new School Portal. This will be the main method for keeping up to date with your son or daughter’s academic progress, daily notices, calendar, booking PSST Conferences and in particular for reporting absences. It does require you to log on using your existing KAMAR/Parent Portal username and password. If you do not remember your password, caregivers can click on the magic link which will send you an email to allow you access to SchoolBridge. If you need help with your password, you can contact us here to request your password.
