Weekend Workshops for Adults Community Education at Rutherford is still going strong, and we have…
Rocking at Rotorua
On Wednesday the 24th of August the Year 13 Geography and 12 Travel students plus 3 teachers headed off on a 3 day trip to Rotorua where we would learn about tourism development. We stayed at the Rock Solid backpackers hostel in the heart of Roto-vegas. At our first stop,Te Puia, we learnt about the geysers and got to see first hand an eruption of one. We also got to see the kiwis they had in their enclosures.
Day 2 was white water rafting in the Kaituna river descending 3 waterfalls with the final one being 7 metres high (the world’s highest commercially raft-able waterfall). Then it was off to the Skyrides Skyline for 5 luge rides. Even though the weather was a bit drowsy we still had fun boosting it down the racing tracks. And some people tried out the Sky Swing. On Day 3 we had a quick guided tour of the new lakefront development to see the new waterfront, floatplanes, playground and restaurant precinct. The highlight of both the day and the trip was our Zorb experience. Shooting down Ngongotaha hill at breakneck speed, falling over each other followed by a recovery period in a spa pool and sauna.
