Rutherford College Student Achieves Top Award at Burnham Blue Light Camp

During the last week of school for the seniors, Frances Kelly took up the opportunity to attend the Blue Light Life Skills Camp which was held at the Whenuapai Defence Force base. This camp is only open to 20 students so Frances was very lucky to gain a place on the camp.

The programme is run by New Zealand Blue Light in partnership with the NZ Police and NZ Defense Force.  The programme provides 14 – 17-year old’s with a residential based course delivering quality life-skills and leadership training.  The program specialises in building self-respect, respect for others, and working within boundaries, self-care, teamwork and problem solving. Up to 12 courses are held each year in Auckland, Central North Island and Burnham locations.

Frances was awarded the top prize of ‘Overall Excellence Award’. Frances was presented this well-deserved award by past All Black – Ofisa ‘Junior’ Tonu’u who was the reviewing officer at the awards ceremony this week.

Frances was presented the ‘Overall Excellence Award’ as she showed maturity, intuition, excellent as a team member, displayed positive qualities of leadership and was respectful towards staff and fellow course members”.

We are all extremely proud of Francis and her commitment to the camp and leadership she showed and look forward to her leading our juniors in 2020.
