Congratulations to Mr Robert Doak, who is an Outdoor Ed Teacher here at Rutherford. Robert won gold at the National Rowing regatta held in Twizel at Lake Ruataniwha in the men club coxed eight representing Auckland.

The National Championships see clubs from all over New Zealand compete in the regatta. Robert’s race saw his team compete against Wellington, Otago, Avon, and Timaru.

Wellington became their closest competition. In the first heat the Auckland team came second to Wellington by 0.4 seconds. In the A final Auckland were half a length down for most of the race but started a big push in the last 500m seeing them win the gold by half a length (3 seconds).
