Sea Week Art Competition
Sea Week is an annual weekly celebration of our seas hosted by the New Zealand Association for Environmental Education. Various events happened across the country to encourage education about our waters and the environmental problems they are facing today.
Here in Rutherford College, the Enviro group had planned activities for students to participate in. Throughout the week we held an art contest for students to show their artistic abilities with the theme being ocean pollution, where students could promote positive messages about our seas while showing awareness about the dangers they are facing. On Thursday and Friday, we provided chalk for students to draw on the ground located outside S Block. There they drew various things regarding the ocean; from sea animals to messages about pollution. A lot of people were involved and showed their love for the seas.
Overall, Sea Week was really successful as many students became engaged in those events and showed us how much the seas around us are really important to them. Hopefully this weekly event could become a common event throughout the school for many years to come.
