On Friday, 8 November seven students had the honour to represent Rutherford College at the Sport Waitakere Excellence awards. It was an entertaining night for all of us where we were acknowledged for our efforts within the 2019 sporting season.
The nominations are as followed:
• Abby Ferrall and Harrison Chapman – Youth Leadership in Sport Award
• TJ Devery – Secondary School Sportsperson of the Year Award
• Mollie Tagaloa and Paris Pickering – Maori Achievement in Sport Award
• 1st XI Football boys – Team of the Year Award.
Although we did not win any of the big awards, we won the hearts of the audience with the performance of our school Haka for former students Yvonne Willering and Dame June Mariu who was the winner of the Sport Waitakere Legacy Award.
It was a privilege to be nominated and attend this evening.
Big thanks to Sport Waitakere for an outstanding evening and Gill Bloxham for the nominations and the incredible job she does for sport at Rutherford college.
