Surf Lifesaving
Last week two of our junior students, Amy Cosslett and Emma Tatt, attended Ocean’s Festival– the annual Surf Life Saving Nationals held in Mount Maunganui. The festival was very nearly cancelled, with the region under a state of emergency, however the call was made to go ahead, and 650 young people aged 10-14 from all around the country flocked to the Mount to partake in four days of competition and events.
With this year being the first full-scale event since 2019 due to Covid restrictions, attendees had the opportunity to challenge themselves and celebrate the camaraderie of surf lifesaving in a fun, exciting, and safe surf and beach environment.
Both Amy and Emma did incredibly well, with Amy making the finals of the Beach Flags Race and placing 8th in New Zealand, and Emma making four semi-finals for Run Swim Run, Diamond (swim, run, board, run), Board Relay and Board Rescue, and they both received a participation and completion medal for the run-swim-run event. A huge congratulations to these two students on an incredible effort and achievement.
