Tag Tournament

Tuesday 28th Feb saw two teams from Rutherford attend the annual Central/West Tag Tournament held at Moire park…a Senior Girls team and a Senior Boys team. The Girls team played with grit and determination, facing some skilled opposition. There were run away tries, diving tags, and even a few big hits at times! Despite not getting the results they wanted, they played with pride and sportsmanship, demonstrating the school values in all aspects.

The Boys however, had a very successful day! They went through their pool undefeated, giving the “big” schools like MAGS a good run for their money with an eventual draw. They faced Avondale in their quarter final, and dismissed them easily to meet Kelston Boys in the semifinal. It was a well fought game that came down to the wire, with our boys missing out on a spot in the final by 1 point! Their 3rd and 4th playoff was against Whangaparaoa, which they went on to win in style, ending up with 3rd place. This qualifies them for Auckland Champs which is a great achievement. Again, the boys played with pride and sportsmanship, and the girls were on the side lines cheering them on… Whanaunatanga at its best.
