Talanoa Part II – Year 13 Scholarship Applications

Talanoa – Student Futures Part II

During Period 5 on Tuesday 6 July, Year 13 Pasifika students were given the opportunity to look, ask and discuss the process when applying for Scholarships towards Tertiary Education. Jeanette Reid, our Careers Advisor, gave good advice on which websites to use for support, the processes behind scholarship applications, and what the students can do to better prepare themselves when applying.

Also present were Maths and Science teacher, Mr. Tagaloa, and former teacher aide, Toni Talamaivao, who were both recipients of the University of Auckland Pacific Academic Excellence Scholarship which paid for three years of tertiary education. They were able to speak from their experience and process when applying for scholarships.

With the aid of the staff members present, we looked at Scholarships from various Tertiary providers such as The University of Auckland, Unitec, and AUT University. Students were guided towards helpful websites such as MoneyHub and university scholarship websites to view the official prerequisites and requirements to apply for scholarships. As many of the scholarships were coming to a close, students were encouraged to begin the journey of applying to enrol in courses at their university of choice before gathering information, references, and supporting documents for their application process.

“This session helped me better understand the requirements for applying and the types of jobs it can lead to” Kane Epati 13GP

“I found it very helpful and made me further think about what I want to do towards my future” Manea Raea 13CW
