Te Kotuku flies proudly at North West Zone Touch Tournament
Dowsed in wonderful sunlight on Wednesday, 26 February Moire Park was the scene of a solid and consistent performance from our Mixed Touch team. Competing against Kaipara Red, Northcote and Kaipara Blue, our team rattled off wins in a consistent fashion. There was wonderful cohesion between our boys and girls, seniors and juniors, led skillfully by Mollie Tagaloa from the Coach’s box.
It truly was a full team performance as the girls played a huge role in gaining territory and shutting down the opposition out wide. While our boys probed and prodded for gaps, none more so than senior Sebastyan Jack, and junior Ezekiel Mate.
Undefeated through round robin play with 4-0 and 4-2 wins against the two Kaipara teams, and a 7-1 win against Northcote, this meant our team earned the one seed in the semi-finals which we utilised to dispatch Northcote again 7-2.
The two Kaipara teams battled in the other semi-final to earn the right to play our group. The final against Kaipara Blue was played in front of our supportive Principal, Mr Moore.
The successful formula for the day continued with our team systematically coming through victorious 5-2 and earning the Mixed team title for the tournament. A huge thank you to Mollie and her sister Melissa for coaching our team.
