The Journey
Just before the end of term two a small group of year 10 students took on the challenge to complete a ten day Journey. For ten days the group had to battle the elements, walk, bike and hike their way from Waiomu Valley in the Coromandel to Te Aroha Summit in the Kaimai-Mamaku Forest. The boys had to do everything for themselves and this involved cooking their meals on gas cookers and setting up camp and tents to sleep in during some cold wet nights.
The purpose of the Journey was to use outdoor adventures, challenges, teamwork, themes, facilitated discussion and reflection to help the group members grow positive characteristics that will enable them to negotiate challenges they may face in their lives. The boys did an amazing job and now have some great stories and shared experiences to cherish. Special thanks to the instructors from Adventure Specialties Trust who guided the group through this journey.
