Year 11 Pacific Island Leaders Of Tomorrow (PILOT)

Rutherford P.I.L.O.T  –  Year 11 2018

Kia Orana and Warm Pasifika Greetings,

On Wednesday, 15 August, nine Pasifika students were selected to attend the 2018 Year 11 Pacific Island Leaders Of Tomorrow (P.I.L.O.T.) course at the University of Auckland, Design School in Albert Street, Central Auckland.

The opportunity was to look at the many career pathways that the world has to offer us. We were encouraged to remember the importance of our Pacific Island culture and how we can use this to pave pathways for us and future generations.

Just like our ancestors before us, we learnt that if we used the mentality that our ancestors used when coming to New Zealand, we could be setting ourselves up towards an easier future.

The program showed us various ways in order to gain more confidence. Being able to mix and mingle with other Pasifika Students from other schools from around Auckland helped us, by showing that we as a Pasifika Student are not the only ones trying to chase success. We are all in this journey together. The students attending were very honoured that we had the chance to participate in this event and we appreciate the effort Mr Talamaivao has put into taking us to the course.
