Year 13 Travel and Tourism Trip
On Wednesday, 7 March , the Year 13 Travel and Tourism class went on a city excursion. We started the day off with a walk up Mt Victoria and saw the splendid views of the City and Mt Rangitoto. This was followed by a quick 15-minute ferry ride over the Waitemata Harbour and a walk up to Auckland Base Backpackers. Here, we got to see how simply tourists lived, checking out the different types of dorms and rooms with ensuites.
Next up, we had time to explore the vast variety of shops and tourist attractions in Auckland City, then we made our way up to the New Zealand School of Tourism (NZST). It was really interesting hearing about the range of courses and the careers available in this exciting industry. Jessica, their National Sales Executive, guided us through NZST and gave us helpful tips and an insight in to what we should expect if we enrol into a Travel school. The school offers exciting internships such as working at Disneyland in Florida, USA; or can help you get a job at one of the airlines; or work in a number of jobs in the Tourism industry. Each floor of the travel school has been decorated to a specific theme: a New York subway, the gondola at Queenstown and a Pacific Island resort.
At the end of the day, as we made our way back to school, a lot of us were enthusiastic about the Tourism industry and were excited about getting to see what our beautiful City of Sails has to offer.
