Rutherford College’s Very First Whānau Fair 2025

Rutherford College’s Student Council with the support of Vanita Karena hosted our very first Rutherford Whānau Fair on Friday 2nd of May 2025. Our objective of the fair was to open up an opportunity for our community to come together, that would make the peninsula a more interconnected and inclusive family, whilst enhancing our school pride.

There was something just undeniable about the experience with amazing student stalls handcrafted by a group of students selling to the community, food trucks which filled the aroma with the exquisite tastes they had to offer, along with some interactive games like the competitive general knowledge quiz and prizes to be won. But the highlight of the night was the exceptional SideTracked Band who performed for the community on the night. The community was super intrigued and engaged with their performances.

Later on, it was time to reveal who the three lucky winners were for our massive raffle we hosted. The three raffle boxes included lots of special treats and items for our winners. But we couldn’t have made this happen without the support of our local community sponsors.

Other special mentions to one of our school councillors Rebecca Dam who brought in her small business to the whānau fair. It was heartwarming to see a staff member being involved in our school community.

Thank you to the Prefects and Student Council for their consistent efforts and dedication towards this event. It was truly an experience that tested our leadership skills, as well as learning about why community is so important.

On the Behalf of the Student Council and our Kura, we would like to send our appreciation to Radiant Nails, Sugar Grill, Et Tu, The Warehouse and lastly Jasjeet Ahuja - a Barfoot and Thompson Real Estate Agent who kindly donated the Student Council all of the ingredients for the sausage sizzle for the night. Also we would like to thank Deidra Schwalger who donated a generous amount of brand new books to us. It was really kind and thoughtful of her!

We also give thanks to the Food Trucks who came along to the event
