The wellbeing of our International Students is paramount.

Student Care and Support

At Rutherford College our priority is to provide a nurturing learning environment that students thrive in whilst encouraging them to discover different opportunities, improve their English language, achieve academic success and establish new friendships. Our caring team, lead by the Director of International Students is available in the International Village during the day. Our door is always open and we encourage students to seek assistance, advice and support whenever they need it. In case of an emergency relating to an international student an emergency phone number 021 430648 is monitored by the Director of International Students or Senior Staff member 24hrs a day.

Rutherford College proudly adheres to The Education (Pastoral Care of Tertiary and International Learners) Code of Practice 2021 administered by the New Zealand Qualifications Authority. These additional resources and translations may also assist with the understanding of this document.

Nurturing Student Homestays

Homestays are a rewarding and educational experience for students. Our police approved student homestays are carefully selected then matched to individual students by our homestay provider, Lake Panorama Student Homestays. Mostly homestay families live within walking distance or a short bus ride away from Rutherford College. Living in a homestay and talking with your family will improve your conversational English. Together with Lake Panorama Student Homestays we provide all necessary checks and supportive care to ensure a successful homestay experience for students.

Student Support

Rutherford College offers strong student support that includes a health clinic and counselling department that are available to international students. Highly trained professionals within these areas provide a freely accessible service to students who may require additional support and care during their time with us. External support agencies are also accessible to international learners and our friendly team will happily assist and support students who wish to explore these.
