Nominations Open 16 July

The School Board is an important part of our school as they set the strategic direction for our school, consult with our school community about our school, ensure the schools funding is spent wisely and ensure that we are giving effect to Te Tiriti o Waitangi within our school. Our board is made up of 5 parent representatives, the Principal, a staff representative elected by staff, and a student representative elected by students. The current board has appointed Election Pilot as our Returning Officer, and the election will be conducted online. They have been assisting schools with elections for over 20 years and have been the only election provider accredited by the Ministry of Education to provide online election services since online elections started in 2022.

What does the board do?

The school board is the governor of the school/kura. The principal is responsible for the management of the school/kura. The principal is a member of the board and acts as the board’s educational leader and chief adviser. Governance and management work in partnership

Who can stand for election?

Just about anyone!
All potential candidates must meet the eligibility criteria for becoming a board member.

When elected members sign the nomination form, they indicate that they have met these criteria and are eligible to be board members.

They must also meet the requirements of the position they're standing for.

For example, someone standing for the role of parent representative does not have to be a parent or have children at the school or kura, but they must be nominated by someone on the parent representative electoral roll.

Note: anyone who has a Schedule 2 offence under the Children’s Act 2014 is ineligible to be on a school board unless they have an exemption.

Affected people can apply to have an exemption granted by the Secretary for Education. For information email [email protected]

Nomination and voting forms will be sent to all eligible voters by email directly from Election Pilot.

Voting will be conducted electronically unless we do not have an email address for you. In that case nomination and voting forms will be sent by post.
