Two of our students, Lucy Day and Autumn Bell were awarded a Goethe-Institut scholarship to participate in a German Theatre Weekend in Auckland from 22–24 May 2026. In order to win the scholarship they had to enter a short video about German- New Zealand cultural stereotypes in German language. Lucy and Autumn's German video about Christmas traditions won them their place at this amazing weekend. Here is what they had to say about their German drama workshop:
Last weekend, we attended a German theatre workshop led by the Goethe institute. This took place over three days, and during this time we tried new German food, went out to dinner with the German Ambassador, practiced our language skills and discussed the cultural differences between Germany and New Zealand, all while making new friends and meeting new people. At the end of the weekend, we performed a short skit in German about an exchange student adjusting to life in New Zealand. This was a great opportunity to develop our language skills and cultural understanding, as well as making connections. We had a lot of fun and are so grateful to Yona, Beate and Sanu from the Goethe Institute and Lauren from Brickworks Drama School for this amazing opportunity.
