On Friday 12 June, the Rutherford College Concert Band presented a special afternoon concert at the Miriam Corban Retirement Village on Lincoln Road, bringing music and enjoyment to an audience of around 80 residents.
The programme featured a lively and engaging mix of concert band standards. Highlights included classics from the 1950s and 60s, such as Henry Mancini’s Pink Panther and Baby Elephant Walk, which brought a sense of nostalgia and fun to the performance. Well-known movie themes were also a standout, with Hans Zimmer’s Movie Milestones proving particularly popular among listeners.
The band also performed two pieces that will be featured at the upcoming KBB Music Festival in August, offering residents an exclusive preview of their competition repertoire. A special feature of the concert was a series of outstanding solo performances:
Charlotte Marriott (Year 13, clarinet) played with three movements from The Victorian Kitchen Garden Suite.
Jet Beardsall (Year 11, piano) and Simone Fabino (Year 11, drums) delivered an engaging performance of Tīpuna by Goldsmith Baynes.
Harry Donald (Year 11, trumpet) performed Tango Final by Piazzolla.
The audience thoroughly enjoyed the concert and were very impressed with the musicality of the group. They warmly expressed their appreciation, with many already looking forward to the band’s return visit.
This event provided a wonderful opportunity for students to share their musical talents with the local community while representing Rutherford College with pride.
