Rutherford College’s Annual Language Week (8-12 June) is a powerful event
Rutherford College’s annual Language Week (8-12 June)is a powerful event that fosters and celebrates cultural experiences, traditions, and diversity.
This year, our school had a wide range of activities throughout the week to strengthen knowledge and unity. Students had the opportunity to participate in calligraphy and ink blowing, German beer mug racing, henna art, singing in Tagalog, a Latin dance workshop, tongue twisters from different languages, and an origami workshop. Other highlights included the cultural fashion runway, where students proudly showcased traditional clothing from around the world on Friday, and the food fear factor challenge, which encouraged participants to try unfamiliar foods from different cultures.
On Thursday night, Rutherford hosted their most popular Cultural Evening. Students from different cultural groups worked hard throughout this school term to present performances that reflected their heritage, language, and traditions. The showcase featured a variety of dances, including Chinese, German, Samoan, Tuvaluan, Japanese, and K-pop performances, along with many other cultural acts. Each performance demonstrated the effort, talent, and pride of the students involved while giving the audience a chance to learn about different cultures. The showcase highlighted the diversity within our school and showed how cultural differences can bring people together. This year's International Language Week was a memorable and successful event that celebrated the many cultures that make Rutherford College a welcoming and inclusive community. This week has been a blast, and I cannot wait for the upcoming 2027 International Language Week!
