How much is the truth worth when everything is on the line?

This term, Rutherford College students will take audiences on a powerful journey through one of history’s most extraordinary fights for justice with their production of Radium Girls.

Inspired by the true story of a group of young women working in radium-dial factories in the 1920s, the production explores what happens when ordinary people are confronted with extraordinary circumstances. What begins as an opportunity for these young women to earn a living and build a brighter future soon takes a devastating turn as unexplained illnesses begin to emerge.

As questions grow and the truth becomes harder to ignore, the women find themselves facing powerful forces determined to protect their secrets. Their struggle becomes a battle between truth and silence, testing their courage, friendships and resilience.

Radium Girls is a story filled with hope, heartbreak, determination and courage. At its heart is a reminder that speaking up can come at a tremendous personal cost, but that even the smallest voices have the power to create meaningful change.

Our students have embraced the challenging themes of the production, bringing energy, commitment and maturity to their performances. Through drama, characterisation and storytelling, they explore issues of justice, corporate responsibility, friendship and the importance of standing up for what is right.

This is more than a historical story. It is a story about people who refused to remain silent when they knew something was wrong.
