Unseen Heroes, supporting young carers

Unseen Heroes, supporting young carers

Unseen Heroes is a charitable trust that support Young Carers - young people who:

•    care for a parent, sibling, or whānau member with a disability, health condition, illness, mental illness, addiction or

•    care/raise their younger siblings for the reasons above or due to socioeconomic circumstances, or

•    significantly care for their kuia and kaumatua.

Please note this also includes those young people who have been removed from their parent with the addiction and are now living with other whānau or are in care.

We currently have 25 spaces available in our Te Ara Mārama programme, designed for young carers aged 13-24 from the Auckland/Northland region who are at risk of NEET (Not in Education, Employment, or Training). Many young carers face mental health challenges (anxiety, depression, self-harm, suicidal ideation), struggle to keep up at school, and often have low attendance rates due to caregiving responsibilities. They often feel lost and uncertain about their future.

Through Unseen Heroes, they will connect with a community of peers who understand, develop the self-worth to dream, and build the confidence to reach their goals and discover their true path. You can find more details and a referral from on our website: https://www.unseenheroes.org.nz.
