On 28th May a group of year 12 students along with Mrs Gibson (Careers Dept) attended a day for Māori students at The University of Auckland. We were first welcomed on to their marae which was called Waipapa marae. Other schools attended the day, and we were split up into groups. In our groups we would eat, talk, and walk the campus as if we were attending The University of Auckland.
During the tour we stopped off at a lecture room where they talked to us about some of the university requirements and entry requirements. They talked about credits needed and the opportunities that can be provided to us from going to university. I felt this experience helped me to have a better understanding of what I am getting into, how I can be prepared for it, and how it can help me achieve my future career.
Overall, the trip to the University was a good experience and I would recommend it to other students that didn’t know what comes next for them after high school.
