Tūrangawaewae Goes to Stardome!

Tūrangawaewae Goes to Stardome!

It was a super adventure!

On Wednesday 6th August Tūrangawaewae headed off to the Stardome Observatory for a fun and informative morning learning about our Solar System.

At school, we had been learning all about the positions of each planet in our solar system, what causes planets to rotate and why things float in Space!

We were excited to take our questions along to find out more from our guide, Georgie.

It was a super adventure! For some of us, the highlight was spending time in the astronomer’s classroom, learning about the pull of a black hole, the asteroid belt, and why Pluto is no longer considered to be a planet.

For others, the highlight was ending the trip with a screening of Our Solar System - it was so realistic, we felt we really were flying through the rocky rings of Saturn.

One of our students said afterwards; “This has been one epic adventure! But this pilot is a little dizzy, and ready to come in to land.”

Tūrangawaewae rāngatahi highly recommend anyone interested in the wonders beyond our Earth takes a trip to Stardome - we think you’ll be amazed at what you learn!
